Superbowl Illustrations

Fresh off the high of my Ohio State Buckeyes winning the National Championship (and as a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan), I jumped at the chance to create custom graphics for the Super Bowl LIX matchup between the Chiefs and Eagles.

Each illustration was created entirely from scratch, and I leaned into a bold, graphic style that pushed my usual illustration approach. While the initial request—paired with copy provided by the Francesca’s team—was to keep the designs neutral in the brand palette, I suggested expanding the concept to also include each team’s signature colors—giving fans the option to proudly rep their team or keep it neutral for the “I just hope both teams have fun” crowd.

We loved how the designs looked in all three palettes, but didn’t want the story to run too long. As a solution, I animated each graphic to cycle through all three color schemes, and created an opening frame directing viewers to screenshot their favorite and set it as their phone background for game day.

The project’s success led to me taking the lead on most social illustrations moving forward—a rewarding shift that came from taking a creative risk and exploring a new style.
