April is my birthday month, and in 2023 I was already planning to celebrate with a sunny picnic—complete with one of those intricate, heart-shaped cakes that were at peak popularity at the time. When we were given a brief titled “picnic hacks,” the concept clicked instantly. April marks the start of Taurus season, and nothing is more Taurus than a birthday picnic.
We did extensive research to curate a list of practical, photogenic picnic hacks. I also supported the art direction and styling by selecting props and providing reference images to guide the shoot.
When I received the footage to edit, I was inspired by lazy, slow, garden-party vibes for my first draft—the first version shown to the right (or below on mobile). It’s my personal favorite, but after several rounds of feedback to shorten the runtime and make the “hacks” element more prominent, the final version was created (shown on the far right or further below on mobile).
