National Crafting Month
March 2022 marked National Crafting Month, and our marketing partners at Walmart wanted to spotlight the owned-brand Hello Hobby craft kits—which were going viral at the time. Being a crafter myself (and eager to create more in-house content), I jumped at the opportunity. This became my first fully self-shot, self-edited content project.
The goal was to show the process from start to finish, which meant conveying time passing. I gave a playful nod to the classic SpongeBob SquarePants time transition graphics—a little wink for anyone who caught the reference. In reality, we didn’t actually have time for the flowers to fully press and dry… and if you look closely, you might notice the “after” scene looks suspiciously similar to the “before.”
While there are things I’d do differently now with more experience, I’m still proud of how this piece turned out. It works as a standalone asset, and alongside my newer work, it also shows just how much I’ve grown as a content creator.
How I’d refine this today: I’d plan the shoot further ahead so I could use the product start to finish with the same flowers for both the “before” and “after” shots, create a backup pressing to ensure the best-looking final result, and change up the background styling more between shots to better sell the passage of time.
