Golden Drop Caps

For a University of the Arts London project inspired by the Arts & Crafts movement, I focused on icon William Morris’ philosophy of rejecting fast, easy production in favor of craftsmanship. I designed a completely hand-drawn drop-cap typeface, blending Morris-inspired patterns with a modern sans serif to connect the past, present, and future of typography.

Each letterform incorporates natural shapes from both my hometown and where I live now in London. In true Arts & Crafts spirit, I also learned bookbinding to create a hand-bound booklet showcasing the typeface in context.

How I’d refine this today: I’d explore more sans serif options for the supporting typeface and experiment with print techniques like foiling, block printing, or letterpress to bring additional depth and texture to the final piece.
