Nail Art Series

I don’t know about you, but I could sit and scroll through nail art content for hours. The things nail artists can do with nail polish are mind-blowing, but that can also make at-home nail art seem a little out of reach for a layperson that can’t afford to get their nails done frequently. I set out to show Walmart customers that cute, on-trend nails don’t have to come with salon prices—or professional-level skills. This ongoing content series highlighted easy-to-achieve nail looks at multiple skill levels, using products available in-store.

The first installment, launched in March 2023, showcased three spring nail looks in an Idea Pin, TikTok, and Instagram Reel. Each look was designed at a different difficulty level: press-on nails (easy), a solid base with pre-made nail stickers (intermediate), and multi-color patterned nails using detail brushes (advanced). This initial TikTok reached 5.6M views and was later adapted into paid content.

To follow up the spring looks, we decided to create an Idea Pin with three Mermaid looks in May to wink at the upcoming release of the Little Mermaid live-action.

After the success of the previous two installments, Olive & June reached out to me to create a post using all Olive & June nail product, which had recently become available in-stores at Walmart. We initially concepted a Pride nail look for June, but due to larger business initiatives we were unable to move forward with the asset at that time. I brought the idea back in the fall when I was in-store for another project and saw their gorgeous fall collection.

I concepted, styled, directed, shot, and edited every asset. The hands shown and the voiceover are also my own.

What I’d change: I’d ensure more consistent lighting (especially reshooting the blown-out detail shots on the pink and orange look featured in the spring asset), establish a better clean-up process for pristine final shots, and allow more time for each shoot so nail paint can fully dry between looks. Creating three designs in one day was efficient but left little room for perfecting the details.
