DIY Doormat Series

One of my favorite series I’ve created, the DIY Doormat series began in spring 2023 when our owned-brand Mainstays blank doormats began selling out due to the emerging TikTok trend. If you’ve been looking through this portfolio, it should come as no surprise that I jumped on the opportunity to create more crafting content for Walmart’s social media channels.

For the first doormat, I created, shot, and edited two options. One was a simple “howdy”, and the other was a customer-truth “please be a delivery”. While the strategy team ultimately chose to post the ladder, I decided to add the former here because I feel it’s more visually engaging. The spring doormat performed so well, we decided to continue it as a series with seasonal updates.

With each version, I subtly improved the creative. The stop-motion and transitions, inspired by TikTok trends, were the highlight of the execution, however we wanted to get to the craft faster for the Halloween doormat. Since the products used were linked in our bio, I decided to forgo the written list of materials needed, and was able to speed that part up without omitting it completely.

The Halloween TikTok went viral and currently sits at 2.3M views. Due to it’s success, it was run as an ad, and was a top-performing ad across all of Walmart’s social media advertising.

For the holiday doormat, I simplified and switched up the format, forgoing the ‘materials needed’ portion. Instead, I used quick transitions to show each product followed by the immediate result.

And yes, that incredible model is Frankie Bagel Fehrenbach.
