DIY Clay Craft
By summer 2023, I was really hitting my stride with content creation and started pitching ideas straight from my For You Page. Air-dry clay projects were everywhere, so I proposed a few different clay-based DIYs using Walmart materials.
Since it was the start of back-to-college season, we landed on something simple, affordable, and heartfelt—a painted photo holder that friends could gift each other before heading to different schools. I styled, directed, shot, and edited both a TikTok and an Idea Pin for the project, layering in subtle storytelling cues like a calendar with “going away dinner,” “move-in day,” and “first day of classes” marked, plus trending dorm décor—most notably the viral mushroom lamp and a Polaroid camera. I even used a blue-and-yellow cutting mat to add a touch of Walmart’s brand palette without making it feel like an ad.
The TikTok reached over 2M views and was adapted into paid content, where it became our top-performing paid asset—until it was suddenly archived for unknown reasons (still a mystery to this day).
