Wedding Coasters
In August 2019—just a week before a coworker’s wedding—she came to me with a last-minute idea: custom printed coasters for guests to place atop their drinks while they hit the dance floor.
There wasn’t time to order from a printer, and the coasters were too thick to run through a personal machine. She needed a large quantity fast, so I created a single oversized screen that could print multiple coasters at once.
On a Sunday afternoon, we designed the coasters together using an existing font from their wedding website, burned the screen, and printed all 150 in one session. I don’t get to screenprint often, so it was a welcome (and very fun) creative challenge. Special thanks to Columbus Printed Arts Center for providing a space for artists to experiment.
How I’d refine this today: I’d explore alternate typefaces and experiment with color variations, such as risograph palettes, for a bolder visual impact. Alternatively, I’d tie the design in more closely with the overall wedding theme.
